Polly Banks

Year Milestone

 2004

Commenced dual degree in Arts (Journalism and Communication) and International Relations, attracted by Bond’s small class sizes, the ability to get to know your lecturers and the community atmosphere of student life.
Formed life-long friendships through active involvement in on-campus clubs, including the Humanities Students’ Association, Amnesty International and Student Council
Travelled to Vietnam on a study tour led by Bond professor Dr Anne Cullen who also supported Polly in applying for an internship at a Vietnamese newspaper
Journalism staff and Professor of Journalism, Dr Mark Pearson, helped to arrange internships at two state newspapers and a Gold Coast-based news station
 2006 Graduated with dual degrees in less than three years, thanks to Bond’s three-semesters-per-year schedule
 2007 Employed as Assistant Coordinator at The Way Community Homeless Shelter in Melbourne while studying a Graduate Certificate in Creative Writing at the University of Melbourne.
 2008 Undertook an internship at the United Nations headquarters in New York, analysing the global media coverage of the Millennium Development Goals
 2009 Undertook a fellowship in Nepal with micro-finance organisation, Kiva
 2010 Joined Save the Children Australia as Program Coordinator, delivering community development programs designed to reach disengaged and at risk young people
