Sustainability at Bond University

Mirvac School of Sustainable Development

Demonstrating its commitment to sustainability, Bond University established the Mirvac School of Sustainable Development in 2008. The Mirvac School of Sustainable Development was awarded Australia’s first six-star ‘Green Star – Education PILOT Certified’ rating for design by the Green Building Council of Australia.

Talloires Signatory

In April 2008, Bond University became a signatory to the Talloires Declaration, further advancing its commitment to sustainability by agreeing to undertake a ten-point action plan to incorporate sustainability and environmental literacy in teaching, research, operations and outreach throughout the University.

Sustainability Committee

Bond University established a Sustainability Committee in September 2008 to enable the development of appropriate policies and procedures to institutionalise sustainability at Bond University. The committee’s aim is to create and implement a framework for environmentally sound, socially and financially feasible practices across the campus.

Sustainability Management System

As an initial step to fulfilling its commitments, the Sustainability Committee approved the Sustainability Policy in 2009. As part of Bond University’s environmental management, the committee is currently preparing a comprehensive Sustainability Management Plan to further advance sustainability initiatives within the University. The aim is to develop a Sustainability Management System that complies with ISO 14001.
