ChancellorDr Helen Nugent AO
Dr Helen Nugent AO is Chancellor of Bond University. She is also a non-executive Director of Macquarie Group, Origin Energy and Freehills, as well as being Chairman of Funds SA. She is President of Cranbrook School. In 2004, Dr Nugent was made an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) for her services to business, particularly banking, in the areas of corporate governance, the arts and the community. Before becoming a company director in 1999, Dr Nugent was Director of Strategy for Westpac Banking Corporation and a Partner with McKinsey & Company. She has had an active involvement in education. She has been Professor in Management and Director of the MBA Programme at the Australian Graduate School of Management at the University of New South Wales, where she also taught courses in Strategic Management. From 1971 to 1980, at the start of her career, she was a Tutor and Senior Tutor in history at the University of Queensland.
Her other involvements in education related bodies include the following: - Member of Bradley Review into Higher Education (2008)
- Member of the Advisory Council of the Australian Business School (prior to that the AGSM) at the University of New South Wales (2004-2009)
- Member of Council at Monash University (1987-1992)
- President of the Harvard Business School Association of Victoria (1988-1990) and prior to that a Director (1984-1988).
She has also been actively involved in the arts. In 1999, she was Chairman of the Federal Government's Inquiry into the Major Performing Arts. She has also been Chairman of the Major Performing Arts Board of the Australia Council; Deputy Chairman of the Australia Council; Deputy Chairman of Opera Australia; and a Director of the Playbox Theatre Company. Dr Nugent was appointed Chairman of the National Portrait Gallery on 22 September 2011. Dr Nugent has an MBA (with Distinction) from the Harvard Business School; a Doctorate of Philosophy from the University of Queensland; and a Bachelor of Arts (with 1st Class Honours) from the University of Queensland. In 2009, she was also awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Business from the University of Queensland.
