Bond Learning and Teaching Awards

Vice-Chancellor's Quality Award for Teaching Excellence

The annual Vice-Chancellor’s Quality Award for Teaching Excellence is conferred for excellence in teaching. Selection takes place in November each year and awards are presented at the February graduation ceremony.  These awards have their own set of criteria.

Eligibility

Academic staff (full time or part time on a contract of at least 12 months) employed at Bond University for a minimum of six teaching semesters during the previous three years.

Previous winners are ineligible for three years from the date of having won this award.

Members of the selection panel are excluded from nomination.

There are no maximum nominations from each Faculty/Institute. Initial nominations must be made by at least one academic staff member and one student who has been taught by the nominee. Self nominations are not accepted.

Selection Criteria

Nominations are to be judged against the extent to which they show evidence of:

  • Distinctive and specific contributions to learning and teaching; and
  • Sustainable contribution over a minimum of three years.

Application

  1. Maximum four A4 pages (no attachments)
  2. Specifically address ONE of the following:
  3. 1. Approaches to the support of learning and teaching that influence, motivate and inspire students to learn
  4. 2. Development of curricula, resources and services that reflect a command of the field
  5. 3. Approaches to assessment, feedback and learning support that foster independent learning
  6. 4. Respect and support for the development of students as individuals
  7. 5. Scholarly activities and service innovations that have influenced and enhanced learning and teaching
  8. Provide a synopsis/summary of the distinctive contribution of the nominee (maximum 25 words)
  9. Demonstrate a minimum of three years sustainable attention to a particular area of teaching and/or learning (related to one of the five areas listed above)
  10. Must present evidence of outstanding contribution to student learning (included in the four pages)
  11. Include a table clearly presenting TEVAL scores
  12. Include other evidence such as results of Peer Observation of Teaching and/or quotes from students

Prize

  • Framed Certificate signed by the Vice Chancellor
  • Name on the honour board in the Main Library
  • $5000.00 grant to be used to fund activities related to learning, teaching and scholarship in the year following the announcement of the award (e.g. conferences on teaching, software used in teaching, design of teaching materials, research assistance for teaching-related papers or projects). Monies must be used during the twelve months following the award. The winner is expected to write a brief report outlining the outcome of her or his expenditures.

The condition of applying for a Vice-Chancellor's Quality Award for Teaching Excellence is agreement to participate in the development of an application for a 2013 national Office for Learning and Teaching Citation for Outstanding Contribution to Student Learning

Nominations close: 20th November 2012

Application submissions close: 12th December 2012

The Selection Panel will recommend a winner to the Vice-Chancellor: 31st December 2012

NB: Joint-winner recommendations will not be accepted.

Announcement of winner and award will be presented at the February Graduation Ceremony.
