Associate Professor Penny deBylPenny de Byl is Associate Professor of Computer Games and Multimedia in the faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at Bond University where she teaches game design, game development and 2D and 3D animation and modelling. Her teaching and research interests interconnect where emerging game and multimedia technologies and pedagogy encourage students to critically analyse their own and others skills in authentic real-world contexts preparing them for life-long learning. Dr de Byl is an international leader in learning technologies and games for learning with an extensive record of publications, presentations and applied methods in this domain. She has been widely recognised with numerous teaching awards and grants at the university, state and national level, including a large Carrick Institute grant in 2005, a Queensland Smart Woman in Education and USQ Teaching Excellence awards in 2007 and an ALTC Citation for Outstanding Contribution to Student Learning in 2011. Assistant Professor Allan StirlingThrough provision of authentic learning experiences that engage and provoke thought, Assistant Professor Allan Stirling prepares tomorrow’s health practitioners and professionals for a career in their chosen field. Teaching across a diverse range of medical and biomedical programs he is recognised as a motivating and passionate educator, his success based on his student-centred approach to learning. Dr Stirling is actively involved in educational research utilising technology as a medium to foster interest and construct a sound knowledge base. Evidence of his success as a teacher is demonstrated through his attainment of both faculty and university teaching awards, his nomination as one of Bond’s Unijob lecturers of the year and additionally an ALTC citation award in 2010. Dr Stirling’s overarching teaching ethos is that “if they love it they will learn it”. On commencing his teaching journey in 2007 from a background as a medical clinician his ‘previous life’ puts him in a position to bring real world concepts into the classroom; provoking curiosity and interest in his students and ultimately making their learning journey more rewarding. 2011 Award RecipientsAssistant Professor Peter JohnsonIn an era of increased university participation and reduced staff:student ratios, award-winning Dr. Peter Johnson strives to provide students with an authentic and engaging personalised learning experience. Drawing upon 16 years of reflective practice as an educator in over 30 biomedical and allied health degree programs across 5 universities, his success is founded on a student-centred approach to lifelong learning. In his current role at Bond University, Peter prepares the next generation of work-ready biomedical and health professionals. Students play an active role in all aspects of their learning, from negotiating assessment tasks, designing their own marking criteria, and participating in self and peer assessment. He has recently pioneered an electronic learning portfolio program, which engages students in planning and reflecting on their acquisition of learning outcomes and program attributes. Dr. Johnson demonstrates the success of his initiatives through active research. He has received multiple teaching and learning research grants and was awarded an ALTC Citation for Outstanding Contribution to Student Learning in 2008. Professor Amy KenworthyAmy Kenworthy is a Professor of Management in the School of Business at Bond University. She teaches in the areas of Negotiation and Organisational Behaviour. Her teaching and research interests are focused on the development and application of service-learning projects and principles as a catalyst for student learning and university-community development. Associate Professor Kenworthy is an internationally renowned expert in the domain of service-learning in management education. She consults both nationally and internationally and has an extensive record of publications and presentations in this area. She has won numerous teaching and research awards, including being named the first international recipient of the Organizational Behavior Teaching Society’s New Educator Award in 2006. She is the Founding Director of the Bond University Centre for Applied Research in Learning, Engagement, Andragogy and Pedagogy (LEAP).
