Australia’s best big band drummer John Morrison and renowned jazz singer Jacki Cooper will bring their humour and swinging sounds to Bond University’s 2012 Live at Bond free music series finale.
The Gold Coast community is in for a treat on Sunday November 25 when the eldest of the Morrison family lines up to perform a list of favourites.
John Morrison, who opened the Sydney 2000 Olympics with his younger brother, James Morrison, is a gifted educator, producer and patron of many outstanding youth bands and orchestras.
His catchy tunes, combined with the vocals of internationally sought after Jacki Cooper, will have the campus swinging and the audience dancing.
Jacki’s impressive musical history includes touring the US, Europe, Russia, Scandinavia, Vietnam and China, as well as performing with the Shanghai Symphony Big Band.
The afternoon kicks off from 3pm in the ADCO Amphitheatre and this month’s event will feature an array of extra entertainment including performances by dance group Gotta Swing.
The audience will also be able to marvel at a vintage surfboard display from Surf World Gold Coast, a mini outdoor museum of local historical images from Gold Coast City Council’s Local Studies Library and a display of classic cars.
Supporting the headline act will be the Gold Coast Youth Orchestra big band led by band leader Malcolm Wood.
The free outdoor music series has been running seasonally since 2011, on the last Sunday of the month through autumn and spring, from 3pm-5:15pm.
To date, Live at Bond has featured some of South East Queensland’s best local artists, including last month’s feel good performer Juzzie Smith.
Wine, beer, champagne, non-alcoholic beverages and snacks are available for purchase.
Live at Bond is proudly supported by Zarraffa’s Coffee. The Zarraffas’s Coffee Caddy is a community service initiative; 50 per cent of the proceeds go to Zarraffa’s Coffee charities, while the other 50 per cent of proceeds go to Bond University’s nominated charity, the Sunland Foundation.
