Year 10 and Year 11 Queensland students have until 5pm on 31 October to complete their application for the new 2008 RSL Youth Development Program that will benefit over 140 high achieving students.
The program has been created by the RSL to support senior school students through their academic and sporting pursuits.
With over half a million dollars worth of grants available in 2008, each grant is worth between $2,600 (for students studying year 11 in 2008) and $5,200 (for students studying year 12 in 2008).
RSL (Qld Branch) State President Doug Formby says the RSL Youth Development Program was designed to encourage school students to develop pride in, and loyalty to, the nation.
“As well as offering an outstanding educational opportunity, we hope these grants will promote awareness amongst Australia’s youth of the sacrifices our veterans have made, and of the ANZAC values they strived to defend – those values of courage, mateship, determination, humour and ingenuity,” he said.
“RSL Queensland believes in nurturing and investing in Australia’s youth to ensure that the strength, vitality and security of our nation are enhanced and preserved.” he said.
Current year 10 and current Year 11 Queensland students can apply for an RSL Youth Development Program grant in the following categories: Academic Achievement; Sporting Achievement; and Community Leadership and Civic Participation.
Applications can be lodged online via www.RSLyouth.com.au where students will be required to highlight their achievements to date, submit a personal reference, and write an essay about the importance of the RSL and ANZAC values to Australia’s youth.
Online applications are open now and close at 5pm on Sunday 31 October 2007.
Winners of the 2008 RSL Youth Development Program from around Queensland will be announced in November 2007 and will be invited to a one-day Leadership Forum on Australia Day 2008, to be held at Bond University on the Gold Coast.
