High school graduates from Cairns to Tasmania are enjoying their first year at Bond University and lapping up the Gold Coast sunshine after receiving scholarships to study at the University.
The wide range of scholarships on offer at Bond and the laid-back lifestyle of the Gold Coast attract hundred of applicants annually from throughout Australia, all hoping to study at one of Australia’s most well regarded universities.
The University invests up to $10million annually in its Scholarship Program, which includes the prestigious, full tuition Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarships, an Australia Day Scholarship, Sporting Scholarships and a journalism cadetship.
This year the University also introduced the Corporate Scholarship program that sees students combine their studies with real-world experience in a Fortune 500 company.
Trinity Bay State High School graduate Glen Rolley, from Cairns, was one of the first recipients of a Bond University Corporate Scholarship, forming a ‘study partnership’ with his corporate sponsor, leading Australian law firm Minter Ellison.
“My internship with Minter Ellison will last for the entirety of my course, so I will have the opportunity to practically apply my knowledge as I progress through my degree and to seek mentorship and assistance from other successful, practicing lawyers,” said Mr Rolley.
He said he was encouraged to apply for Bond University’s Scholarship program because of the strong contacts the University maintains with employers and industry.
“The courses are accelerated, the tutorial and lecture groups are quite small, and the University holds a very strong reputation with employers and legal professionals,” he said.

Tasmanian Hutchins School graduate Pieter Joubert received a prestigious Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarship and believes the Bond lifestyle has expanded his horizons.
“Instead of sitting at the University of Tasmania with same old people for the next 5 years, I'm now having the time of my life on the Gold Coast, with the knowledge that I'll finish university in less than 4 years,” he said.
