Mobile Creative Learning Inspiration Crew (MCLIC)

Mobile devices are here, on campus, in the classroom, in the hands of our students. There is increasing evidence that using these electronic Swiss-army knives in our teaching improves student learning.

You are invited to be a member of MCLIC. One participant will be welcomed from each of Business, Health Sciences and Medicine, Humanities and Social Sciences, Institute of Sustainable Development and Architecture, and Law for a total of five participants.

Each member of the Crew will receive either an iPad2 (iOS) or ASUS Eee Pad (Android) to use throughout his/her employ with Bond University. The tablet will be asset-registered to the MCLIC member to use at work and home throughout and beyond the QTL initiative.

The initiative will be run over eight weeks commencing 22nd May 2012 and will include six topics, as well as giving you the chance to utilise much of what you’ve learned in a supported teaching environment. Attendance at all six workshops is mandatory for MCLIC participants. The workshops will run in the QTL Meeting Room on Tuesdays from 6-8pm. Catered dinner will be provided.

The six topics are –

  • What is Mobile Learning and how do I get started?
  • How can Mobile technologies assist me in managing my subject/s?
  • How can I utilise my students’ Mobile Devices inside the classroom... and outside?
  • Can textbooks be interactive? Can I customise them to the needs of my students?
  • What is the ‘Cloud’ and how do I get there?
  • How do I transform curriculum to allow for mobile learning?

Call for Participation –

  • Comply with the Submission Guidelines as presented above.
  • Use the following as headings in your application -

My current understanding of mobile learning.
My commitment to MCLIC attendance and participation.
How I expect to apply my MCLIC learning to my teaching at Bond.
Why I should be a member of MCLIC.
How I will share my learning with other members of my Faculty/Institute.

Learning and Teaching Fellowship

In 2012, Bond University will be offering two Learning and Teaching Fellowships (one in each of semesters two and three). This call is for the Bond University Learning and Teaching Fellow (Semester Two 2012). The awardees of this competitive opportunity will receive funding, research collaboration and administrative supports to conduct and publish learning and teaching research, and facilitate workshops for in-faculty and university-wide colleagues. The Learning and Teaching Fellowships replace Teaching and Learning Research Grants.

The total grant awarded to each fellow is $15,000. The money may be used for conference travel, purchase of software or supplementary hardware, translation services, a research assistant and/or other related expenses. Faculty Learning and Teaching Committees will rank applicants where there is more than one applicant per Faculty.

Nominees are either a Faculty Academic on a Research Semester or a Visiting Scholar.

Fellows are required to produce a minimum of one of each of –

  • Learning and Teaching (L&T) workshop for the Faculty.
  • L&T workshop for Bond.
  • L&T conference paper/presentation.
  • Published peer-reviewed L&T scholarly journal paper submission.
  • Plan for relevant and sustained L&T research beyond the term of the Fellowship.

Call for Participation –

  • Comply with Submission Guidelines as presented above.
  • Propose topics and details for each of the five bullet points (workshops, papers, sustainability plans) listed above.
  • Include a budget outline detailing how you would spend the $15,000 fellowship if awarded.
