Rhys
PhD (Biomedical Sciences)
Everyone grows up wanting to be a doctor, or a lawyer, or an astronaut. When I was growing up, I wanted to be me! And since I was always very inquisitive, asked endless questions, and enjoyed learning medicine, it is no wonder that I became a research scientist in the medical field!
STUDYING: I am currently studying a PhD in haematology and immunology, after completing my Bachelor of Biomedical Sciences and Bachelor of Biomedical Sciences (Honours) at Bond. The study I am involved in examines older persons aged 65 to 74yrs performing regular moderate intensity exercise on a treadmill. At regular intervals before, during and after their 24-week exercise program, I analyse blood samples for red blood cell aggregation, various immune system markers and test the functionality of their immune system.
INTERESTS: Sport, computer games, and just having fun in general!
HOMETOWN: Gold Coast
DREAM JOB: My dream job is to become a lecturer, teaching other students the knowledge I have gained from my own experiences and research.
HOW BOND IS HELPING ME GET THERE: Bond gives me the freedom to create my own path towards my goals and provides me with excellent lecturers, state-of-the art equipment and a passion for research. Postgraduate study will benefit my career by allowing me to become a leader of my own project. It is different to undergraduate study because I get to make my own decisions and become an expert in a specific field.
