Welcome Shayne Quick - Professor of Sports Management

The Faculty of Health Sciences and Medicine at Bond University is pleased to welcome Professor Shayne Quick as the new Professor of Sports Management.
Professor Quick has taught undergraduate and postgraduate subjects in Sports Management and Sports Marketing at universities in Australia and abroad. He was formerly Pro-Vice Chancellor (International) at the University of Waikato in New Zealand, and Program Director of Sport Management at the University of Technology, Sydney and Past President of the Sport Management Association of Australia and New Zealand.
Shayne obtained a Bachelor of Applied Science degree from Victoria University of Technology, a Bachelor of Education from Monash University, a Master of Arts degree from the University of Western Ontario, Canada, and a Doctor of Philosophy from the Ohio State University, USA.
Shayne’s career objective has been to use the management of sport to enhance international understanding. In moving towards this goal, he has worked in universities in Canada, USA, Greece and New Zealand before coming home to Australia.
Among his many publications is his book, Strategic Sport Marketing, now in its 3rd edition and published in 4 languages. He has established international sport management programs in collaboration with the Olympic Games at Sydney 2000, Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008 and has undertaken consultancy activities with the Houston Rockets, Sydney Kings, Australian Rugby Union, IMG, the Sydney Swans and the Western Bulldogs
In 2001, Professor Quick was recognised by the Bulgarian Olympic Committee for his outstanding contribution towards the successful participation of the Bulgarian Olympic Team in the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. In 2007, Professor Quick was presented with an award for outstanding contribution to Sport Management by the Democritus University of Thrace,
Shayne’s research has focused on the management of professional sporting organisations in Australia, sport and consumer behaviour and international sport management education. He has published and presented widely on these topics. He is a regular contributor to media including radio, television and print and in a number of countries.
Now that Professor Quick has joined the Faculty of Health Sciences and Medicine he has the responsibility for implementing the new Bachelor of Sports Management, the new combined degree, Bachelor of Laws/Bachelor of Sports Management and the updated Master of Sports Management. These programs offered at Bond University represent the new direction for Sports Management in Australia.
Drawing upon Shayne’s extensive academic and professional experiences he has revised the Master of Sports Management; we expect to introduce the revised program in January 2009.
