Nigel ThomasBachelor of Laws/Bachelor of CommerceGold Coast, QLDWhat is your ultimate ambition in life? To be an investment banker. How are Bond’s world-class professors helping you get there? Firstly, the classes are so small that the professors actually know who you are. There are only ten students in some of my tutorials – and even less in others. I know I can approach my professors whenever I have any questions; they just give you so much support. The Faculties and the Career Development Centre also organise a lot of industry nights and networking seminars. I did one recently on how to ‘brand’ yourself – it was so interesting. We’ve also industry events like the Bond Business Leaders Forum where I’ll get to talk to the people I’ll be approaching for a job in a few years time! How is the international network of contacts you’re gaining at Bond helping bring your ambition to life? Obviously it’s really easy to make friends in such small classes but there are a lot of social events held on campus where you get to meet people from all over the world who will eventually be working in various fields, so you can make contacts from a wide range of industries and international locations. I’ve also been awarded a Corporate Scholarship, sponsored by Macquarie and I’ll be doing an industry placement with them to expand my practical experience. Being able to build contacts in a major international investment group like this is going to give me a serious advantage when it comes time to establish my career.
