Other Fees

General living expenses

Students should budget for approximately AUD$220 per week for general living expenses such as personal items, social outings, transportation and miscellaneous living costs.

Textbooks

Textbooks for the Foundation program (Cricos code 061805B) will cost approximately $700. Books will be available from the Bond University bookshop or directly supplied by the College.

Overseas medical insurance (international students only)

Students should allow a minimum of A$380.00 per annum for medical insurance.

Withdrawal/Cancellation penalties

Students should refer to the refund policy for terms and conditions of cancellations/withdrawal.

Student Activities Membership

The Bond University Student Activities Membership, commonly known as SAM, will become a compulsory fee from May 2012 semester in accordance with the provision of the Student Services and Amenities Fee legislation.

The Higher Education Legislation Amendment (Student Services and Amenities) Bill 2010 was passed on October 11, 2011. These amendments to the Higher Education Support Act (2003) allow higher education providers to charge a student services and amenities fee from 1 January 2012.

SAM provides students with access to the Sports Centre and clubs offered by the Bond University Students Association (BUSA). The fee is used solely to support a wide and varied range of student events, activities and student services as well as purchase important equipment for the Sports Centre and to support the activities of Bond’s wide range of social, sporting and cultural clubs.

BUSA is the overarching student representative body at Bond University. It is responsible for representing students in all academic, sporting and recreational forums within the University and seeks to enhance campus life through its social and cultural activities and also to ensure that Bond students have an independent voice in the administration of the University. BUSA is a not-for-profit and voluntary incorporated association comprising current students who are elected to serve twelve months terms in office.

The fees for 2012 will be as follows:

Semesters Two and Three
A compulsory Student Activities Membership (Student Services and Amenities) Fee will be charged on the following basis:

Full-time students = $87.50 per semester
(30 credit points or more each semester)

Part-time student = $65.50
(less than 30 credit points each semester)

Students who do not pay the activities membership will be required to pay on a Casual Visit Cost basis when utilizing any of the sporting facilities and services.

The annual amount is CPI adjusted each year.

The fee must be paid by the census date (Friday Week 4) of each semester.

Australian citizens and holders of an Australian Permanent Humanitarian visa who are enrolled in a program at Bond University are eligible to defer their Student Activities Membership fee through a loan program called SA-HELP. Eligible students must complete the SA-HELP form and provide their tax file number by the census date of the semester. There is no administrative loan fee for SA-HELP and there is no interest on the debt. The accumulated HELP debt is indexed annually. Repayment arrangements will be the same as other HELP loans.

Students who withdraw from subjects or programs after the census date for that semester will not be eligible for remission of the SA-HELP debt or refunds of fees already paid.
