David de Rothschild will be giving a presentation of his extraordinary Plastiki adventure. Traversing the Pacific from San Francisco to Sydney in a 60 ft. catamaran made buoyant by 12,500 reclaimed plastic soft drink bottles and built from a uniquely recyclable material; Seretex, the Plastiki crew has been on a mission to beat waste. An ‘off the grid’ vessel relying primarily on renewable energy systems, the Plastiki and her crew have journeyed more than 8,000 nautical miles drawing attention to the health of our oceans, in particular the colossal amounts of plastic debris, by showcasing waste as a resource and demonstrating real world solutions through the design and construction of the Plastiki.
