Bond degree takes Swedish student to all corners of the globe

24 April 2013

Bond Business student, Emre Sonesson, has managed to combine his postgraduate studies with a global travel itinerary.

Born and raised in Sweden where he completed a double degree in Economics and Political Science at Lund University, Emre travelled to the opposite end of the earth to undertake postgraduate studies in Australia.

“I chose to do my Master of Business at Bond University because it has a very good reputation internationally,” said Emre.

“I liked the idea of smaller classes where the teachers have time to give students individual attention, as well as the opportunity to live and study with people from all different countries.”

For the final semester of his degree, Emre is on the road once more, moving to New York for an internship with advertising industry icon, Avrett Free Ginsberg.

“I’m interning as a strategic planner, working with a range of AFG’s high profile clients,” he said.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity to learn by doing, and to experience yet another culture that differs from both Sweden and Australia in the way they do business.”

Bond University offers the USA Internship Program as a 10-credit point subject for undergraduate and postgraduate students in the Faculty of Business and the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. Working in partnership with the Boston-based Academic Internship Council, they offer eligible students 14-week work placements in major US and Canadian corporations.

“The selection criteria is quite high but successful students, like Emre, are rewarded with the experience of a lifetime; gaining hands-on practical know-how with a top flight employer in their relevant industry, expanding their network of international contacts and having the opportunity to live their dream in one of the world’s great cities,” said Faculty of Business Industry and Student Placement Coordinator, Sara Comi.

For Emre, however, it seems the Big Apple has made its mark and may have curbed his globe-trotting ways.

“I would definitely like to stay in New York longer,” he said, “and I’m hoping the contacts I’ve made during my internship will help me get a full-time job here once I have graduated.”
