You wouldn’t think Bond University would have much in common with a world class horse racing stud in South Africa. But Dr Justin Craig, Associate Professor of Entrepreneurship and Family Business, was recently invited to speak about family business at the inaugural Summerhill Stud Winter School of Excellence specialist lecture series.
With over ninety per cent of the world’s businesses being family owned, the Summerhill Stud has many ties with current and future family business owners. Dr Craig presented to owners, breeders, trainers, farmers and industry representatives and shared about some key aspects of running a family business.
He reminded the audience that entrepreneurs are made, not born and how each of us “have resources we often leave fallow”.
The presentation provided a great insight for the varied audience and Dr Craig was generous with his knowledge. As one of the attendees stated, “Not only is this a man who uniquely touches upon the things that affect most people’s business lives, but he is one of only a handful of authorities on the subject, and by the time his hour was up, we knew why. He’ll be back, and there is no-one outside of a multi-national who can afford to miss it.”
