Founding Director's Welcome

As the Founding Director I extend a welcome to the Australian Centre for Family Business (ACFB). On these pages we provide a snapshot of what it is that we do, and what it is that we have done.

Whether you are a researcher, a student, a member of the vast Australian or global family business community, or someone who is involved in supporting or consulting roles, we are most likely able to assist you in your endeavours. We prefer to work with partners over an extended period to not only achieve your goals but also to fulfil our mission to become a world class centre.

We are well on the way to fulfilling our mission. Since the launch of the ACFB in 1994 we have steadily built an international reputation for our research and pedagogy. We acknowledge, however, that we have only scratched the surface of building knowledge and understanding of family business and welcome you to engage with us in some capacity to continue to achieve our mission to contribute to the economic and social development of Australia by enhancing the prospects for profitable continuity of Australian family businesses.

I identified early on in the process of planning the Centre, that building knowledge and understanding of family business is reliant on building close and lasting relationships with family businesses. We have been able to achieve this through the ongoing support of Family Business Australia and collaborations with leading professional firms such as BDO and KPMG. In addition, we have been able to glean rich insights by working with many of Australia’s leading family businesses and from the Bond student community.

As the ACFB functions as a stand alone research centre within the Faculty of Business at Bond University, the majority of our work requires additional, outside the University, funding support.
