A trip to Omaha in the US has helped to confirm the best practice teaching that is occurring within the entrepreneurship and family business group in the Faculty of Business.
Associate Professor Dr Justin Craig has recently returned from the Berkshire Hathaway AGM, where the legendary Warren Buffett shared his insights with the enthused audience.
Known as the ‘Woodstock for Capitalists’, there were plenty of insights that Dr Craig came away with.
“Attending the AGM gave me the opportunity to learn from the horse’s mouth and the phenomenon that is Warren Buffett. It alerted me to a number of aspects of Berkshire Hathaway that are similar to what is taught in our classrooms,” Dr Craig said.
“Their long-term strategic approach and the focus on stewardship are just two examples of tactics that the company uses, and that is exactly what we teach our students as well. This helps to reinforce the fact that what we are teaching is leading business practice, implemented by incredibly successful organisations.
“The meeting has given me further knowledge and case studies from Berkshire Hathaway that we will be able to implement in the classroom to highlight successful entrepreneurship strategies.”
Dr Craig also intends on doing further research into the successful investment strategies Warren Buffett has implemented to gain insights that can be passed onto the students in the entrepreneurship and family business group at Bond University.
