Bond’s marketing students recently had the opportunity to take on a real-life project in their studies.
Students completing the Marketing Strategy: Cases and Applications subject had to develop a marketing strategy for a company’s current situation.
Professor Dubelaar said the opportunity for work integrated learning was an important part of the curriculum at Bond.
“Our classes often use case studies with real business as it provides our students with a fuller picture of the complexities businesses face,” said Professor Dubelaar.
“In this class, we had a representative from Thermo Controls come into the class and give a presentation about their business. They outlined plans to introduce a new product to their range of refrigeration, air conditioning and heating products.
“One group of students had to investigate the best approach for marketing the new product and were then required to present their proposal back to the company.
“Opportunities like this enable students to complete a task they wouldn’t normally experience until they are out in the workforce. They are given a budget to work within and have to think outside the box to come up with the best marketing solution.”
The benefits of work integrated learning projects aren’t just for the students. The marketing proposals and research will often feed into the companies own decision making processes, giving them high quality resources to draw upon.
