A unique visit to Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary

16 October 2012

Students undertaking a Bond University Faculty of Business subject recently had the opportunity to see a different side of the Gold Coast tourist attraction, Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary.

The class excursion to the sanctuary was part of the Faculty‘s innovative course Doing Business in Australia, which is specifically designed for international students to gain a better understanding of the country and running a business in Australia.

Adjunct Teaching Fellow Mr Don Jolly used the excursion as an opportunity for the class to get insights from successful Australian business operators.

“During the excursion, the class met with senior management and were briefed on key business issues impacting the running of a not-for-profit organisation in Australia. They also viewed the Yanguwah Dance Show and met with the indigenous dancers,” said Mr Jolly.

The students who attended were a multicultural group from around the world, including Paul Davis from the United States of America.

“Visiting Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary was a great experience. I have been there before and experienced the "tourist" view, so it was interesting to see how behind the scenes worked,” said Mr Davis.

“The Aboriginal dance was incredible as it was the first time I have experienced that. We also got to hear first-hand from one of the Aboriginal dancers how important his culture was in his life.

“All of this, combined with Don’s extensive knowledge about Australian business, painted a great picture of the best way to run a business in Australia, whilst getting an understanding of different cultures at the same time.”

Excursions like this are just one way the Faculty of Business ensures its teaching remains practical and relevant and gives students the best opportunity to hit the ground running after graduation.
