What is family business?
Family businesses are those where the family has control of the entity through ownership and are thus able to shape its strategic direction, while simultaneously having a concern for family relationships and an intention of generational continuity. Family businesses dominate the commercial landscape of all free enterprise economies. In Australia, family businesses account for over 70 per cent of all businesses.

A large percentage of our students hail from family businesses and many graduates go on to join their family to help grow their business by adopting the many lessons introduced in classes. Our Australian Centre for Family Business (ACFB) is made up of leading experts in the field of family business. Founded in 1994, the ACFB is Bond University’s longest established research centre and boasts an international reputation. Research generated from the ACFB assists in forming the industry relevant coursework within the family business field.

Family business programs and subjects
- Bachelor of Business (Entrepreneurship & Family Business) – For students without a university degree who would like to get a practical understanding of the entrepreneurship and family business fields.
- Graduate Certificate in Family Business – A program for people who work in a family business or if you work for a business that provides services to this sector.
- MBA (Family Enterprise) – For students who already have a degree and work experience and would like to gain a comprehensive understanding of the theory and practice of management in a globalised world with a family enterprise perspective.
- Executive MBA – family business stream – For executive managers in a family business who would like to undertake manager training at the highest level.
- Doctor of Philosophy – For students who hold an Honours degree, Master by research or demonstrated research capacity who would like to pursue an academic or research career.
