Work Experience Work experience placement is available to all students enrolled in the Faculty of Business, in order to provide students without practical workplace experience, or with workplace experience in a field different from their studies, a chance to further their skills in their chosen discipline. As work experience is ‘not for credit’, there is no minimum GPA requirement, and students are not required to present their application forms to an Academic Supervisor for approval. The Work Experience Application Form must be lodged by the deadline directly with: Sara Comi Internship & Industry Placement Coordinator Faculty of Business Bond University QLD 4229 Ph: +61 7 5595 2234 Email: scomi@bond.edu.au Guidelines for Students The following guidelines have been developed to make the work experience as rewarding and efficient as possible: The Application Process Prior to application for a work experience, students need to complete the following: - Print and fill in the Work Experience Application Form;
- Students need to research the area in which they wish to do their work experience, and complete the preferred company portion of the Work Experience Application Form;
- An updated and detailed resume and cover letter expressing your career aspirations and how this work experience will contribute to establishing your early career path.
Deadline for Applications Students may, at any time, organise work experience directly with an Organisation. However, if you would like assistance from the Internship & Industry Placement Coordinator, the deadline for applications is 4pm Friday Week 6 of the current semester for the following semester’s placement. Duration Opportunities exist to undertake internships for three weeks full-time during semester breaks, or one day per week throughout the semester. How this time is allocated over the semester will depend upon the requirements of the placement organisation. Further research may also be expected away from the work place environment. Workplace requirements While taking part in the work experience students will be required to undertake a series of related duties for the chosen organisation. The exact nature of these tasks will be decided upon by the company supervisor and will vary from organisation to organisation. It may be difficult to provide specific details of these tasks well in advance. If doing work experience, please ensure you voice your preferences with your Academic Supervisor. Student Obligations Conduct Any Bond University student who has been successful in gaining work experience is a representative of the University at all times. As such, they are expected to uphold a high standard of conduct. This means interns should be punctual, conscientious, reliable and discreet while ensuring an acceptable standard of dress is worn. Attendance In order to be courteous to your placement provider, if at any time a student cannot attend to any of the duties required as part of their work experience, they must notify their employer and the Internship & Industry Placement Coordinator as early as possible. Insurance Cover Bond internships and work experience students are covered by the University’s insurance while in the employer’s workplace. To ensure this insurance is in place students must complete the Work Experience Application Form. The form needs to be completed and signed at least two weeks prior to the internship commencing, so the necessary paperwork can be completed on time. If a more comprehensive insurance cover is required (ie. involving overseas or interstate travel) it is the student’s responsibility to complete the necessary details. Information on web pages is accurate at the time of posting and may be subject to change from semester to semester to reflect changes in program structure. It is therefore important to check current information at the time of enrolment.
