REFLECTIONS: Make meaningful links between theory and professional practice

Professional principles form an integral aspect of the new Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF). “(Professional) principles reflect contemporary theory and research evidence concerning children’s learning and early childhood pedagogy. Principles underpin practice that is focused on assisting all children to make progress in relation to the Learning Outcomes” (DEEWR, 2009. P. 13)

Principle 5: Ongoing Learning and Development, as detailed in the EYLF document, encourages early childhood practitioners to reflect on how developmental and learning theory influences their daily practices in relation to children’s learning. This workshop has been designed to assist early childhood practitioners to make meaningful links between practice and theory. Practical discussions that link your observations & planning to developmental and learning theories are aimed to demystify how theory is embedded in your every day practices and how your understanding of theory can influence your approach to children’s learning and development.
