Journalism
A host of new opportunities present themselves to journalism graduates as digital and social media shape the way news is obtained, shared and delivered. Traditional media like newspapers, television and radio are converging and experimenting with exciting new ways to reach audiences, while new models of journalism are continually arising. A new era of citizen-driven, digitised information has dawned. Future journalists will be entering a fast-paced industry that looks for a range of skills including writing, multimedia development, photography and filming. Their employers might be traditional media organisations, international social media platforms, citizen journalism co-operatives, government agencies or new media startups.
Journalism qualifications present opportunities across the field of media and public affairs. Students wishing to pursue a career in the field are now able to be truly diverse in their focus, no longer restricted to newspaper, magazine or broadcast journalism. Bond University’s Journalism degrees are constantly tuned to meet the demands of this changing environment. State of the art equipment and access to industry professionals means Bond graduates arrive in the marketplace with the skills and experience they need to start their careers. Students start producing journalism pieces from day one, with their first subject using social media, multimedia and print platforms for campus and community news products. That continues through the program, with some subjects even run from the newsrooms of local news organisations, and an array of internships on offer at Australian and international media outlets. Prior to graduation, some of our students have published stories in magazines like Dolly, Cleo, Girlfriend, Inside Sport, Marie Claire and Gold Coast Panache.
Our faculty academics are leaders in their fields, continuing to produce journalism themselves and as authors of leading texts in creative non-fiction, media law and ethics, social media, public relations and media relations.
