CounsellingCounselling is a person-centred process designed to help clients or patients who are distressed, anxious, depressed or otherwise unhappy with their lives, relationships, or some aspect of their performance. Students are taught evidence-based methods for building rapport with their clients and understanding the factors which cause those clients concern in their day-to-day lives. They are also taught a range of therapy strategies to guide future clients towards achieving their life goals and addressing the issues which cause them distress or unhappiness. Counsellors work in a range of fields that focus on providing systematic and practical support to people confronting problematic issues in their lives. The Counselling program at Bond University assists its graduates to meet the professional challenges they will confront in the field by ensuring that their skills extend beyond talk therapy to methods for treatment development and application. Studying Counselling At BondThe Counselling programs at Bond are designed to provide specialised education and training in the professional practice of Counselling. Both the Bachelor of Counselling and Postgraduate Diploma of Counselling incorporate coursework, practical experience gained in class and during practicum placement, and research. The teaching curriculum emphasises development of personal competencies, broad-based knowledge, and applied skills required for registered practicing Counsellors. The Counselling program draws from a range of theoretical models derived from current research and practice. Students complete a major practicum placement under the supervision of appropriately qualified and experienced supervisors. Students gain experience in applying best-practice models which meet the standards for appropriate ethical and professional practice. The philosophy which underpins the processes used to train students is embedded in core principles which are considered to guide ethical and professional practice in the Counselling context. Principle 1: Training in the scientist-practitioner model Principle 2: Respect for the client-counsellor bond at all times Principle 3: Emphasis is on idiographic understanding of client presenting issues Principle 4: Non-manualised therapies designed to enhance client competencies Careers In CounsellingDepending on the courses chosen, graduates could expect to find employment in areas such as: - Case Management
