Criminology

Criminology is the scientific study of offences, offenders and victims of crime, drawing upon disciplines such as psychology, philosophy, sociology, political science and law.

While largely an applied social science with an emphasis on practical application, criminology is underpinned by a strong theoretical base and body of scientific research.

Criminology involves the study of crime patterns but also analysis of the operations of the criminal justice system - its policies, programs, police, courts and prisons.

Criminologists work in a range of areas and in many different crime related settings. Their roles may involve the analysis and prevention of crimes, advising police in criminal matters and examining the operation of law courts, prisons and community based correction centres. Criminologists apply statistics, research, theories, analysis, investigation, critical thinking and logic to develop crime prevention strategies.

The Bond Criminology programs offer studies in forensic aspects where students work on ‘real’ cases. Innovative subjects focus on the cutting edge of criminological theory and practice from around the world, setting criminology at Bond apart from the rest.
