Compere: John Kerr and Mike Jeffreys
Interview with Dr Vicki Bitsika, an Associate Professor at Bond University in the faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. Bitsika's primary areas are psychology and psychiatry with expertise in autism, Asperger's Syndrome and ADHD. Jeffreys says there is a story that is getting a lot of response on the blogosphere and Twittersphere. A mother of a boy with autism is very angry with Microsoft Xbox Live for labelling her son a cheater and taking away everything he has earned online. Bitsika says the boy could have Savant Syndrome, which means he could have islets of extremely advanced ability compared to his overall development. Bitsika says the incidence of Savant Syndrome among autistic children was recently increased to approximately 28% in a study by Pat Howlin. Bitsika thinks the boy accused of cheating could have a Savant skill that allows him to break codes no one else can see. Bitsika states Microsoft's actions could cause him amazing distress.
