Bond University Professional Forum: Presented by Dr Caitlin Byrne

‘SUCCESSFUL AND RESILIENT CITY BRANDS: A TAPESTRY OF PEOPLE, PURPOSE AND REPUTATION’

An effective city brand can be a powerful vehicle that attracts investors, tourists, skilled people and businesses to a particular place above all others. Cities across the globe have started to deliberately engage with the concept of city branding to protect their interests in an increasingly competitive, noisy and crowded global marketplace. Comprising more than logos, slogans and gala events, a city brand is a narrative that builds upon the people, purpose and reputation of a place – believable in times of plenty and where possible, in the aftermath of disaster. This presentation draws upon international and Australian experiences of city branding to identify the factors that appear common to successful and enduring city brands, as well as the challenges that might test or undermine the resilience of that brand.
