Abstract
The seminar will explore the existing theories of Middle Power behaviour to enable their use within a framework of analysis that will be employed to study Australia’s Middle Power diplomacy. The exploration of the Middle Power theories is not intended to build a new theory of Middle Power but will identify the most useful attributes and limits of these theories. In doing so it is envisioned that the thesis will be able to make some additions to these theories through their employment within the new framework of analysis. Three case studies will be examined: Australia’s Cambodia peace resolution, the Australia-Japan security partnership, and the Australia-China Free Trade Agreement. The session will also provide an introduction to the PhD program at China Foreign Affairs University and the field research experience at Bond University. This seminar is part of the Australia-China Exchange series, hosted by the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, International Relations, and the Centre for East-West Cultural and Economic Studies at Bond University.
