Student Training Session for COMN12-270 Communication and Shared Leadership in Groups and Teams

Shared leadership

In the subject Communication and Shared Leadership in Groups and Teams, students are asked to work in a team across the semester to research, write, and deliver a creative training session. They can use drama or role play, or they can construct a film. Some suggested topics are:

  1. Getting everyone in a group to contribute equally
  2. Working in cross-cultural groups
  3. Working with a team where men and women are meant to contribute equally
  4. Dealing with the “I’ll do it myself because you do such a lousy job” member.
  5. Dealing with the “But I’d make a much better leader than you” member.
  6. Dealing with the “Well, how can I do as little as possible while getting the most out of this situation?” member.

In the September 2009 semester, the team of Alyssa Broccoli, Anette Karenstuen, Lucy Morrison, Pascal Trueb, and Alexander Wall (pictured) developed a training session about how to work in cross-cultural groups.

Anette Karenstuen wrote:

“We named our group 'Don’t call me girly'. We found the name fun and descriptive of our group, as we liked to push ourselves and take chances. This name motivated us to dress up like we did in the presentation and act out our new consciousness.”
