Vision

The vision of the Australian Centre for Arson Research and Treatment (ACART), located at Bond University, Gold Coast campus, is to reduce deliberate firesetting behaviour in Australia. The Centre carries out research designed to inform best practice for the assessment, treatment and management of deliberate firesetters. The Centre’s purpose is to not only study the problem of arson, but also to offer treatment interventions for clients and training for mental health practitioners with the goal of reducing the impact of deliberate firesetting in this country. ACART values its role as the first Centre devoted to studying these behaviours in Australia, and seeks to be a hub of information for students, practitioners, clients, researchers and industry professionals. Through building relationships with key community and industry stakeholders and developing innovative and much needed research and treatment programs, ACART aims to provide the essential tools and critical resources necessary to recognise, assess and reduce the impact of problematic firesetting behaviours in Australia.

Mission

The Australian Centre for Arson Research and Treatment (ACART), located at Bond University, Gold Coast campus, supports clinical and forensic researchers in their endeavors to understand, assess and treat deliberate firesetting in juveniles and adults. This support advances our understanding of the issue and accelerates the development of viable and practical solutions to the problem of deliberate firesetting in our community.

This research and treatment is undertaken to inform and improve available treatment programs. Further, ACART is committed to generating a network of industry professionals and practitioners to exchange ideas and share advances in knowledge pertaining to the assessment, treatment and management of deliberate firesetting behavior.
