Dr Vicki Bitsika
Professor of Autism Spectrum Disorders
Director of the Centre for Autism Spectrum Disorders
Dr Bitsika has specialised in the assessment and treatment of individuals with an Autism Spectrum Disorder for over 25 years. As well as working with children, adolescents and adults on the autism spectrum, Dr Bitsika has also trained parents in techniques for managing the behavioural challenges their children experience in the home environment. She has also been heavily involved in development and delivery of numerous professional development programmes for practitioners in the field. Dr Bitsika has acted as Consultant to various government organisations responsible for service delivery to individuals with an autism disorder both in Australia and internationally.
Dr Bitsika received an ALTC award in 2009 for development of innovative curriculum in Behaviour Management and was awarded a Winston Churchill Fellowship in 2010 to travel to the USA and UK to investigate best practice intervention technologies for individuals with an Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Jean Stevens
Research Manager in the Centre for Autism Spectrum Disorders
Jean has over 20 years experience in working with people with Autism and their families across a range of educational and clinical settings. Her commitment to research and strong track record in working with families have provided her a deep insight into issues of practical significance to the field. Jean coordinates and manages the Centre’s research projects and ensures best-practice adherence to professional conduct practices and guidelines for ethical research.

Benjamin Tomecek
Researcher
Adjunct Teaching Fellow in Behaviour Management and Counselling
Ben is a Counsellor who has worked with a diverse range of client groups and presenting problems across a range of mental health contexts. He has joined the Centre to investigate the ways in which educational personnel use assessment processes in the school context to understand and remediate the behavioural difficulties of students with an autism disorder.
Barbara Stewart
Researcher
Adjunct Teaching Fellow in Behaviour Management and Counselling
Barbara evaluated a project on early intervention for children with an autism disorder during her postgraduate studies and received a Highest Achievement Award in 2008 from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at Bond University. She is currently involved in research into practical frameworks for the delivery of Behaviour Management services to people with Autism Spectrum Disorders.
Aude Etournaud
Research Assistant
Aude graduated from Bond University in 2011. She has earned a Bachelor of Psychology and Double Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling and Behaviour Management. Aude is involved in working on methods for identifying and measuring anxiety in children with an autism condition as part of a wider multi-university project in on this topic. She is also conducting research into models for delivering group-based support to parents of children with an Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Marie Steinmetz
Research Assistant
Marie graduate from Bond University in 2011 with a Double Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling and Behaviour Management. She earned a Bachelor of Science (Psychology) and Bachelor of Arts (History) from Santa Clara University in Northern California where her passion for research and working with children with an autism disorder began. Marie is currently working on a number of the Centre’s research projects with a particular focus on best-practice methods for multi-modal assessments for children with an autism disorder.
