The Court Discovery program gives students a valuable insight into a courtroom environment and proceedings and the workings of the Australian Legal System. Participants will watch a trial unfold, with commentary, and help determine who is innocent or guilty!
The three hour program will consist of:
- An overview of the Australian Criminal Court System
- Video incident briefing
- Aspects of a criminal mock trial – prosecution, defence, witness examination and cross examination, and verdict
- Refreshments with academics and current law students
- A tour of the Legal Skills Centre
Students will also receive a certificate of attendance.
The program is held twice a year (Thursday, 28 February and Tuesday, 23 July 2013), and each program will offer two sessions; a morning session running from 9.00 am - 12.00 pm, and an afternoon session running from 12.00 pm - 3.00 pm. Due to courtroom capacity, there are a limited number of seats available for each session so teachers are requested to indicate the numbers of students that will be attending.
