Colloquium on Sport, and Diplomacy, Development and Governance

The Faculty of Law and the Centre for Commerical Law at Bond University hosted a Colloquium on Sport, and Diplomacy, Development and Governance.

On 28 November 2012, the United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution on sport entitled ‘Sport as a means to promote education, health, development and peace.’ The resolution encourages the use of sport as a vehicle to foster development and strengthen education, prevent disease, empower girls and women, promote the inclusion and well-being of persons with disabilities, and facilitate conflict prevention and peace-building. In that context, the purpose of the Colloquium is to consider the broader role of sport in fostering international relations, and as a tool of diplomacy in fostering community development and reconciliation. The Colloquium will also include speakers on internal governance issues within high profile sporting organisations, and international pro bono activities.
