Mooting at Bond

Mooting is an arena of gladiatorial combat where national and international competitions provide a battleground for law students to test their advocacy skills.

Over the past few years, Bond University has earned a formidable reputation for its mooting success around the world, winning an average of two competitions a year, including the International Criminal Court (ICC) Trial Competition in 2011, and the D.M. Harish Memorial Government Law College International Moot Court Competition in 2012.

For those interested in applying for our mooting teams, I promise you won’t find a harder challenge than preparing for and competing in a national or international moot. It involves long hours of preparation and weeks of practice, necessitating in many cases, a reduced subject load.

But I can also promise you that it will be one of the most rewarding experiences of your time at Bond– one that will, quite literally, change your life!

In addition to the advancement of your legal research, advocacy and presentation skills, mooting provides an opportunity to travel around Australia and around the world, meeting students, academics and legal professionals from some of the world’s most prestigious law schools. The contacts you make at these mooting competitions will be of benefit, not just to your legal education, but to your entire career.

As such, I encourage every law student to consider mooting as part of their Bond Law experience. Not only will you be participating in one of the activities that makes Bond Law exceptional, you’ll also be joining an illustrious list of Bond’s mooting alumni … not to mention the fact that it will look great on your CV.
