About The Project: Aboriginal Disability Justice Campaign

Project Summary

Across Australia, particularly in remote regions, many indigenous persons suffer from cognitive impairment. Foetal alcohol related brain damage is believed to be the predominant cause. Most of those affected do not receive proper care and develop risk behaviours which channel them into the criminal justice system. This project focuses on current law and practice in Australia and examines the alternative pathways in the criminal justice system and the need for health and welfare reforms.
