About the Tim Fischer Centre for Global Trade and FinanceMissionThe Tim Fischer Centre for Global Trade and Finance was founded in 2000 to serve as an interdisciplinary research centre and think-tank on global trade and finance issues. The key objectives of the Centre are to: - produce cutting-edge applied research addressing the issues confronting Australia and Australian businesses in the fields of globalisation, trade, and finance;
- heighten public awareness of and contribute to the national debate on the role of Australia and Australian businesses in a globalising world;
- contribute to government policy formulation in the fields of globalisation, trade, and finance;
- provide research and consulting services to businesses and the government;
- offer intensive courses to the legal profession, businesses, and the government; and
- enhance the public profile of Bond University.
To achieve these objectives, the Centre aims at: - producing scholarly books and articles in leading journals in Australia and overseas;
- publishing refereed occasional papers on topics relating to international trade and finance;
- undertaking commissioned research projects for the government and industry;
- hosting distinguished lectures, conferences, symposia, and seminars; and
- increasing interest in the study of law relating to international trade and finance.
CompositionThe Fischer Centre is administered by two Co-Directors with the assistance of Research Office staff and a student assistant. An Advisory Board consisting of respectable members from the bench, the bar, and the academy provides guidance on strategy and operations. The core of its membership is comprised of Senior Fellows, who are senior academics well established in the fields of international trade or international finance, and Fellows, who are academics and legal practitioners, who are experts in the fields of international trade or international finance, both within Australia and overseas. Although student membership is not offered for the time being, all the events of the Centre are open to students. In fact, students are strongly encouraged to get involved in the research activities of the Centre.
