Communication and Media Studies

Communication and Media are challenging fields for both study and work. A rapidly developing body of academic literature looks at the many roles of communication and the media and the issues they raise about life in the 21st century. Our graduates become corporate communication policy makers, journalists, public relations practitioners, information officers, advertising executives, training personnel, communication consultants, multimedia designers and interactive entertainment specialists.

Our keynote is quality accompanied by flexibility. You can take subjects in this area either as electives or majors. You can pursue a particular career objective such as public relations or you can simply aim to widen your horizons by taking a single subject. There are many choices so please take some time to look through this Handbook. Courses are designed to fit into your program. For example, students in the Bachelor of Communication wishing to take an industry major in Public Relations can commence in the January semester and complete the required 6 subjects over the following two semesters.

While you can take majors in Communication and Media fields in the programs outlined below, you can also take two related majors from our offerings by, for example, combining a major in Journalism with one in Media, Multimedia, Advertising, Public Relations and Corporate Communication and Computer Games.  The Faculty also offers a number of postgraduate programs in the Communication and Media fields. Both generalised and specialised Postgraduate Diplomas and Masters Programs are available. All programs except the Master of Communication by Research require no previous background in the relevant field.
