Balnaves Foundation Multimedia Learning CentreDr Neil Balnaves AO and The Balnaves Foundation have been long-time supporters of Bond University. Dr Balnaves served a six year term as Councillor of the University and is currently a Member of the Board of Trustees and a Community Member of Bond University Limited. He was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by Bond University in 2009 for his commitment and contribution to the media industry, philanthropy and education. Dr Balnaves has played a key leadership role in the media industry for over 45 years. He previously held the position of Executive Chairman of Southern Star Group Limited which he founded. He is currently the Chairman of Ardent Leisure Group, one of Australia's most successful owners and operators of premium leisure assets. In 2006, Dr Balnaves established The Balnaves Foundation, a philanthropic fund that aims to create a better Australia through education, medicine, and the arts with a focus on young people, the disadvantaged and Indigenous communities. In 2008, The Balnaves Foundation generously funded the development of the award-winning Balnaves Foundation Multimedia Learning Centre, a technology rich educational environment which exemplifies the student experience at Bond. It provides all students at Bond access to collaborative-friendly study spaces and the latest audio visual and computer technology in a spectacular location. The Balnaves Foundation is committed to ensure the facility continues to be at the forefront of technology advancements and generously supports ongoing upgrades and the introduction of new interactive technologies. Opening HoursPlease see: Balnaves Foundation Multimedia Learning Centre Opening Hours FacilitiesThe Balnaves Foundation Multimedia Learning Centre is a wireless environment where facilities include: Social Learning ZoneFlexible furniture arrangements allow students to move seating and tables as necessary to accommodate group work and discussion. Laptop BarBar height seating and power outlets are available for multiple laptop users. Study BoothsThe study booths provide group seating with large LCD screens for interactive learning. Students have access to a document camera, computer, Blu Ray DVD player and a PlayStation®3 console. Wireless PlayStation® controllers and keyboards are also available from the Information Kiosk for students to borrow. IT and Library SupportStaff are available during opening hours to provide assistance to students. A large range of devices can also be borrowed from the Information Kiosk. Collaborative Learning RoomThis specially outfitted room is available for group bookings by students and features state of the art computing and communication equipment designed to enhance learning. Fixtures include a Smartboard, a HD projector and videoconferencing facilities. There is support for laptops and various games consoles (X Box®, PlayStation®, and Nintendo Wii™) are available for use. The room can be booked at the Kiosk inside the MLC or by sending an email to Service Desk - Information Services. Computer TablesBanks of computers are available for student access to the internet and the University's full range of networked resources and applications. The clustered computer tables also provide room for students to work in pairs. Art DisplaysBond University Multimedia students' work will be projected onto large screens, high on the interior wall of the MLC. PrintingPrinting is available, including facilities for students to add credit into their network printing account.
