Finding Books Where are the books? Books are shelved according to the Library of Congress classification system, A-PL on Level 3 of the Main library and PM-Z on Level 4. You will find the books relating to health sciences and medicine on level 4. View the list of subject areas and their call numbers to the right if you want to know where to browse. A copy of each prescribed and recommended text can also be found in the Reserve Collection, which is behind the Library & Computing Service Desk on level 2 of the Main Library. If you need help finding the books you need, please ask at the Library & Computing Service Desk. Borrowing from the Library Your student ID card doubles as your Library card, and you will need it to borrow from the Library. Watch this video which shows how: How to search for books You can search for books using either the Library Catalogue, or Summon (the search box on the Library homepage). Whether you use the Library Catalogue or Summon to find books is up to you. Use the buttons on the right to see examples of how to do it.

What is Summon and how does it differ from the library catalogue? Summon is the search box on the Library home page. Summon is the quickest way to search the widest range of the Library's resources simultaneously - it searches across all of our books and dvds, plus over 50 of the electronic resources (the Library catalogue only searches across the books and dvds). When you're looking for information Summon is definitely worth searching, but you do need to remember that Summon does not search everything that's available. For example some of the resources not searched by Summon include PudMed/Medline, Anatomy TV, Therapeutic Guidelines, FirstConsult, MIMS Online, PsycINFO, Scopus, UpToDate and Web of Science. Watch this quick demo on how to use Summon, then try it for yourself!
