Referencing

Australian Guide to Legal Citation
The referencing style in use in the Faculty of Law is the Australian Guide to Legal Citation (AGLC) 3rd edition. Unless otherwise specified in your subject outline or by your lecturer, this is the style you should use in your law assignments.
An exception to this in the Canadian law subjects. In these subjects, the McGill Guide for referencing is generally used.
A basic outline of the AGLC 3 style is available from the the Library. It is not comprehensive but you should find it a handy quick reference.
The full version of the AGLC 3 can be downloaded from the publisher, Melbourne University Law Review (this version cannot be printed).
Copies of the style are also available on the Library shelves - the catalogue will show you if copies are available. It can also be purchased fairly cheaply from the University Bookshop.
RefWorks
RefWorks is a online reference management tool. Using RefWorks you can:
- Create your own database for storage and management of your references
- Format your footnotes and bibliography in AGLC 3 - with some limitations (see this guide from the University of Melbourne).
- Save time by only entering the data for a reference once and reusing it over and over again
As a Bond student you can sign up for a RefWorks account. Using RefWorks effectively requires some investment of time at the beginning; however the benefits later in your degree can be significant. You retain your RefWorks account after you leave Bond
Generic RefWorks training sessions are held during weeks 1-5 in the Octagon Room, Main Library. These sessions are drop-in, so you don’t need to book ahead. Check the Library Training Timetable to find out when classes are on.
A session on using RefWorks with AGLC 3 can be arranged for groups on request.
