For Authors

Submission

  • Authors submit a publication proposal to the BUP Management Board for advice on
    • potential referees (to plan quality assessment and review)
    • possible publication type (electronic, hard copy)
    • funding options; and
    • possible marketing options
  • Completed manuscripts are submitted by the Management Board to the to the Editorial Committee for a decision on whether the manuscript is of appropriate standard to warrant review with:
    • a letter of support from the relevant academic body (usually a Faculty)
    • a list of potential reviewers;
    • an indication of budget and source of funding
    • an intended marketing plan
  • Manuscripts are normally reviewed by at least two reviewers approved by the Board.
  • If the BUP Management Board accepts the manuscript as a BUP publication (on the recommendation of the Editorial Committee):
    • a contract for the publication between the University and the author is then signed which specifies the form of publication;
    • the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Information is the authorised signature for all BUP agreements
    • the author arranges for the manuscript
      • to be edited and formatted for e-publications@bond and/or printing; and
      • marketed
  • The Management Board approves the final edited version before printing or uploading to  e-publications@bond.

Funding

Funding is sought for each project separately. Some central funds have been allocated to operate as a small loan fund to provide funding for projects where the loan is repaid from the proceeds. Book or other publication proposals are submitted to the Management Board which appoints an Editorial Committee to evaluate proposals and make a recommendation to the Management Board. Profits are shared between the University and the author(s).

Legal Deposit

Legal deposit is a statutory provision which obliges publishers to deposit copies of their publications in libraries in the country in which they are published. Under the Copyright Act 1968 and various state Acts, a copy of any work published in Australia must be deposited with the National Library of Australia and the appropriate State library.

In addition to the above, two copies of each BUP publication are required to be deposited in the Bond University Library.

Marketing

"To maximise exposure, publications can be listed in Global Books in Print. Once published authors should contact their Liaison Librarian with details of the publication to ensure this is arranged. Bond University Press publications can also be marketed through the Bond University Bookshop, DA Information Services and James Bennett". The Liaison Librarian can also assist you with this.
