Using One Line/Cite View
Once you have created your folder of references in RefWorks, One Line/Cite View allows you to write your paper and insert temporary in-text citation placeholders. You can then create your in-text citations and bibliography for your document.
In RefWorks Under View choose Folder then the folder of references you have created.
Choose the One line/Cite view in the Switch to: drop down menu

Click on the Cite link in the RefWorks folder next to the reference you wish to include in-text.
A box will open with the RefWorks temporary citation placeholder

Click the Select Citation button to highlight the temporary citation
Copy the highlighted temporary citation
In your Word document, put your cursor where the in-text reference needs to be located, then add a space. Paste in the temporary citation.
This temporary citation will be formatted properly when you have completed your paper and selected the output style for your bibliography.
When you have finished writing your paper in Word, name it and save it.
Formatting your Bibliography
In RefWorks select Bibliography from the toolbar
Select a bibliography output style from the list. e.g. APA 5th
Choose Format Paper and Bibliography
Use the Browse button to find and select the document you have saved.
Click on the Create Bibliography button, Download it, Open
You will see that the name of your paper has been changed by adding “Final” in front of the file name. Your original paper (without the bibliography) still exists as well.
If you need to make any changes or revisions, discard the “Final” document and go back to your original. RefWorks cannot read already formatted documents.
