Bond University Human Research Ethics Committee

Mission

Bond University Human Research Ethics Committee is committed to protecting the welfare and rights of human participants in research conducted by members of the Bond University community.

In doing so, Bond University Human Research Ethics Committee will promote ethically, socially, scientifically and legally responsible research activity among all members of Bond University.

Vision

Bond University Human Research Ethics Committee seeks to promote the Bond University vision of being a leading independent university, "with high moral values [and] world standing in its scholarship" by ensuring that research at the University meets the ideals and guidelines of the National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Research Involving Humans provided by the National Health and Medical Research Council.

Bond University Human Research Ethics Committee has developed principles to implement the National Statement of Ethical Conduct in Research Involving Humans throughout Bond University.

Appointment of Members

Members are appointed for renewable terms of 2 years by invitation of the Chair of BUHREC. The Chair will advise the Bond University Research Committee (BURC) of the nomination. No limit is placed on the number of terms a member may serve. However, members have tended to serve for two terms.
Upon completion of a term and discontinuation of membership,, a former member may be invited to serve in the role of the relevant alternate member to ensure continuity of experience.
Members will be provided with the necessary training and/or resource materials necessary to consider the ethical merits of protocol applications.
Sub-committees

Expedited Review Committee

Two Committee members will form an expedited review Subcommittee for each qualifying protocol. Expedited review subcommittees will be appointed so that:
1. The expertise and interests of the reviewers is matched to the content of the protocol.
The Subcommittee will consider a protocol with respect to all the considerations given to a protocol by the full Committee, meeting the requirements and principles of the National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Research Involving Humans.
The Subcommittee members will report to the Chair their recommendations, including the recommended decision to be communicated to the applicant.
