For Students

Enhancing Students’ Understanding of their Chosen Field

The intern program will enhance students’ understanding of their chosen career by giving them exposure to a real life environment as well as providing the possibility of employment opportunities. They will be able to work with cutting edge equipment and technology that may not be available at Bond University and will benefit from interacting with professionals in their chosen area. This interaction will provide both formal and informal opportunities to learn about their chosen career path.

Students will gain experience in applying the knowledge they have obtained in their studies to a commercial/industry setting. They will also develop skills in project management, working to deadlines, working as part of a team, and preparing professional reports. These experiences are vital for a successful university to work transition and will enhance students understanding of the contemporary workplace environment.

Students eligible to apply for the internship program will be in their penultimate or final semester of their undergraduate program. Eligible courses are:

  • Information Technology;
  • Biomedical Science;
  • Forensic Science and
  • Sports & Exercise Science

Benefits to IT students include:

  • Apply knowledge in a commercial setting, learn to work in groups and interface IT systems with other existing systems.
  • Appreciate the difference between developing small systems and developing large systems and learn to apply project management skills.

For Biomedical Science students, internships will provide opportunities to:

  • Work with the latest technology; automated analysers in pathology laboratories, the latest biotechnology equipment including DNA sequencers, micro-array analysers.
  • Have access to patient samples, and develop the skills necessary to safely handle multiple samples.
  • Carry out a detailed research project, using modern project management techniques, working to deadlines, and preparing professional reports.

For Forensic Science students, internships will provide opportunities to:

  • Work with the latest technology used by forensic laboratories: automated DNA extractors, automated liquid handling equipment and automated genotypers and software analysis.
  • Work within the strict legal and accreditation frameworks required of forensic science.
  • Have access to forensic samples, and develop the skills necessary to handle the wide variety of biological evidence types.

Sports & Exercise Science students will benefit by:

  • Having the opportunity to observe and apply their knowledge in a practical training/physiological testing environment through access to elite and sub-elite level athletes and sports teams.
  • Developing the industry standard skills set for the planning and delivering of training and testing protocols through active participation in training sessions and competitions as applicable.
  • Working with the latest in athlete performance assessment technology and applying world’s best practice testing methodology to athlete assessment.
