Research Highlights Australian Centre for Family Business banner

The Australian Centre for Family Business (ACFB)

The primary function of the ACFB is to conduct quantitative and qualitative research studies that concentrate on the short- and long-term concerns of the family business community to ensure relevance to contemporary national needs.

In 2011 the Centre celebrated two decades of dedication to Australian family businesses at Bond University. Fittingly a selection of the ACFB publications were published as a book of readings by Bond University Press in early 2011, Understanding Family Enterprise: A Book of Readings edited by co-directors Professor Ken Moores and Dr. Justin Craig. This report is special as it marks the end of an era with the forthcoming retirement of the foundation director Professor Ken Moores. Other 2011 highlights include:

  • ACFB co-director Justin Craig, along with North American based co-authors Clay Dibrell (The University of Mississippi), Don Neubaum (Oregon State University) and Chris Thomas (The University of Mississippi), received the prestigious 2011 Best Empirical Paper award from the Entrepreneurship Division of the Academy of Management. Their paper titled Stewardship climate scale: Measurement and an assessment of reliability and validity, builds on the seminal work of Davis, Schoorman, and Donaldson (1997).
  • Professor and Founding Director Ken Moores AM, was awarded a Doctor of Business, for his research that has showcased the opportunities, challenges and future of the family business sector.
  • ACFB personnel also edited two books and refereed numerous book chapters and journal articles.
  • Bond University’s family business researcher community were involved in multiple national and international research conferences in 2011. A total of 17 research papers authored by 9 faculty members were presented at one national and four international conferences on a variety of topics contextualised in the family-owned business space.
  • Bond’s reputation in the family business space continues to grow with a new book released by Australian Centre for Family Business Co-Director Dr Justin Craig. The book, entitled Family enterprise in the Asia Pacific: Exploring Transgenerational Entrepreneurship in Family Firms, was edited by Dr Craig along with his colleagues Kevin Au and K. Ramachandran.
