Research Highlights Globalisation and Development Centre bannerThe Globalisation and Development Centre (GDC)

The Globalisation and Development Centre is an inter-disciplinary Faculty Research Centre which was established in 2007. It aims to encourage collaboration and to promote high quality and innovative research within the broad field of globalisation. There is a research focus on the Asia-Pacific region as well as issues dealing with the economic development within that region. Globalisation and Development Centre highlights include:

  • In 2011 GDC entered into a research collaborative arrangement with Economic Growth Centre at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore and held its inaugural joint workshop at Bond University. A second workshop of this series in planned to be held in Singapore later this year. Korea University has also indicated to have a similar arrangement with Bond University.
  • Selected papers of the above conference are being published in a special Issue of the Journal of the Asia Pacific Economy with Noel Gaston as Guest editor (forthcoming; 2013).
  • A number of high-profile guest speakers presented papers at seminars under the auspices of the GDC.
  • Members of the GDC team have established research collaboration within institutions in Australia and overseas. Highlights of major achievements of the members of GDC are:
    • Professor Noel Gaston has been has been appointed as the principal adviser of research for the Productivity Commission. 
    • Professor Ahmed Khalid was invited as an Advisor to the Ministry of Planning and Development, Government of Pakistan for 6 months in 2011. 
    • Professor Rod Falvey is a member of the Scientific Committee, European Trade Study Group as well as Scientific Committee, Australasian Trade Workshop.
