Health Professional Education (HPE)
The health profession education research group was established at the Faculty of HSM in 2010. It has initiated and fostered research into innovative teaching across the Schools of Medicine and Health Sciences. In 2011 HPE gave numerous conference presentations including: - Building research capacity in clinical skills in a new medical program
- Intertwining scenarios with high fidelity to teach medical students peripartum skills
- How well prepared are medical students for their clinical placement in women’s health?
- How common is self diagnosis and self treatment amongst general practice patients? And do they tell the doctor?
- What drugs to Medical Students choose to learn about in general practice and is there a problem?
- Self-diagnosis and self-treatment before consulting the doctor. What is happening in primary care?
- What drugs do medical students choose to learn about in family medicine?
- How common is patient self-diagnosis and self-treatment in general practice and are there any differences between patients attending university or community general practices
- HPE were also successful in two grants titled:
- The development and evaluation of simulated ward call teaching scenarios for pre-clinical medical students.
- Developing a taxonomy of quality indicators for clinical agencies
