The East-West Centre for Cultural & Economic StudiesEstablished in 1993, The East-West Centre for Cultural and Economic Studies provides a focus for research, teaching, interdisciplinary applications, and education on the interactions among culture, society, economics and politics in the dynamic Asia-Pacific region. The Centre acts as a virtual think-tank, linking academics at Bond University with colleagues and associates in Australia, Asia, Europe and America, enhancing mutual cooperation and supporting individual as well collaborative efforts through intellectual exchange and dialogue. Throughout 2011 the Centre has been promoting their research through a range of events and publications. The key achievements include: - Promoting research within the Faculty of Humanities and Sciences, largely through the International Relations streams but also via research projects by Dr Rosita Dellios, Dr R. James Ferguson, and Jonathan Ping as well as by alumni, associated (not-staff) academics, and academics writing for the Centre Bulletin, the Culture Mandala. This included seminars and publications by Centre fellows and external advisors such as Alan Chan and Reg Little.
- Promoted research and dialogue through regular contacts with Australian, Asian and international academics, including colleagues in Singapore, USA, Germany, PRC, Taiwan, India, Estonia and New Zealand.
- Centre members presented papers or attended conferences in Beijing and Wellington, and published articles or papers including:
- R. James Ferguson and Rosita Dellios, ‘Harmony and Humane Governance – Contesting the Social Order in Classical Chinese Thought and 21st Century Global Society’, Journal of International Confucian Studies (Beijing), Vol. 18, March 2011, pp. 614-656.
