The Tim Fischer Centre for Global Trade and Finance

The Tim Fischer Centre for Global Trade and Finance was founded in 2000 to serve as an interdisciplinary research centre and think-tank on global trade and finance issues.

The Centre’s key objectives are to:

  • Produce cutting-edge applied research addressing issues confronting Australia and Australian business in the fields of globalisation, trade and finance;
  • Heighten public awareness of, and contribute to the national debate on, the role of Australia and Australian business in a globalising world;
  • Contribute to government policy formation in the fields of globalisation, trade and finance;
  • Provide research and consulting services to business and government;
  • Provide short courses and other training to business and government;
  • Enhance the public profile of Bond University.

Selected 2011 highlights: 

  • On July 22-23, the Fisher Centre hosted the Trade and Investment in the Mining and Energy Industries: Domestic and International Perspectives Conference at Bond University. This event was co-sponsored by Clayton Utz.
  • At July 27 and 28, the Fischer Centre co-sponsored the Globalisation, the Global Financial Crisis and the Reinvention of the State Conference. It included speakers from Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa, and the US.
  • In December, a high-profile delegation from the CCP Central Committee visited Australia. The 21 delegates were from various provinces and cities directly under the central government. Associate Professor Lo organised all the activities for their visit, including: an exchange meeting with the Dean, Deputy Deans, senior law academics, and two International Relations academics; a campus tour; and a formal reception at the Arch Building with a welcome speech by the Vice-Chancellor Robert Stable. According to the Vice-Chancellor, this delegation was the largest one from China to visit Bond University.
  • During 2011 the Centre also had a range of affiliated publications.
